Being single, I normally wind up doing things like going out on my own to have some fun—and while there are people out there who think that this sort of thing is exceedingly sad, there are others who find nothing strange about it—in fact, they revel in it.

Something that falls into this category is eating out at restaurants. I know a few people who have a borderline phobia about going out to eat by themselves, and therefore refuse to do it.

I’m not one of those people.

In fact, I often enjoy my food more if I’m not eating with someone else. I love to go out and treat myself to some delicious yummy-yummies, and I have a few favorite places that I go to for this. Here's four of my faves.

(What, [livejournal.com profile] alkonost_storm? You knew there was going to be food on this thing. YOU KNOW ME.)

Fitz’s: Located in the loop, Fitz’s makes one mean bison burger. I don’t get out there often enough—in fact, the last time was right before the…unpleasantness. But I plan on making a return. They also brew their own root beers and other sodas (so if you were wondering, yes, it IS that Fitz’s). You haven’t had a good root beer until you’ve had a fresh Fitz’s. The flavor’s so strong, your tongue goes a bit numb from it.

Wasabi: A sushi bar that I first went to for a friend’s birthday. Their futomaki rolls are to die for: the tamagoyaki is sweetened perfectly and light and fluffy. Their plum tea is also amazing, and I don’t mind that it costs $2 a glass, not for THAT delicious taste. It’s made with matcha-en, instead of regular tea, and so it’s healthier and has a much more interesting flavor profile than regular green tea. A new location recently opened up far closer to where I live, and I plan on treating myself to some futomaki very soon.

McDonald’s: I admit it. I like McDonald’s. Specifically, their fries. The rest of the menu is fairly standard fast-food fare, but…their fries. Oh my goodness, THOSE FRIES. I hear, according to rumour, that the answer to the secret taste in those fries is a bit of beef fat—meaning that the fries aren’t vegetarian. Kinda funny, isn’t it? Of all the things that I am loathe to give up, those fries are some of them.

White Castle: Made famous by the Harold and Kumar franchise, this place is where you get those tiny little burgers known affectionately as Sliders. They’re TERRIBLE for you, but sweet merciful Goddess, are they good…but I have to offer a warning to anyone who’s thinking of going out for a few: White Castle burgers are one of those things where you either absolutely LOVE them, or you HATE them. The little steam-grilled, oniony burgers have been a favorite of mine for a long while.

I can understand the preference of eating alone but I admit I'm one of those people who simply cannot dine alone when I go to a restaurant. Though lately the fact that I can try and get someone else to handle the bill is the defining reason. It's weird since I don't like people watching me eat (if someone does call attention to how I'm eating something then odds are I will take umbridge) but I feel more conscious of other people when I'm dining alone than if I have someone I know with me.

I generally don't go to McDonalds but holy crap...their fries...Mmmmm.... (though my favorite thing from them is the chicken nuggets. They are TERRIBLE for me but dammit do I love the taste...)

I KNOOOOOOOW RIGHT. Those things are TERRIBLE for the health: fried, greasy starch sticks, loaded with salt to which I often add EVEN MORE SALT and served with surprisingly-sugary ketchup. I shouldn't eat them, I shouldn't even be THINKING about them because ERMAGERD do I want some like RIGHT THE HELL NOW.

I'm thinking my cheat day is going to be spent either finding a McD's that ISN'T in the middle of renovations, or trying to mock-up the grease. I don't have so much as an OUNCE of beef here but I have a feeling if I add some ghee to the canola when I fry my fries (uber-shoestrings, as thin as I can dice) they might be closer to the taste. I know the butter-flavored Crisco (!!!) was REALLY close.

Your experience with restaurants sounds like me with the movies. I just enjoy them more if I'm alone :D

Aaah, so much lovely sounding foood! Now I really want to go eat out!

I feel weird enjoying my food to the fullest in front of people because I feel like they're getting ready to laugh at me--or because maybe it's not nearly as good as I think it is and they're just humoring me--or most likely because not everyone's into food like I am. I like being free to be all "HNNNNGH THIS IS DELICIOUS" without getting a "pfftLOL" out of whoever's watching.

I KNOW! I FOUND THESE LOVELY TEA ICONS, AND I WANTED THE AAAALLLL!!!

Ha! Ha! I know that feeling. I always get so worried like that too. Like, "are you enjoying this too? Am I being too obnoxious?" and stuff like that U.U LOL!
